My experience with animation so far
So far I have enjoyed animation more than I ever thought I could. This is my first real experience using any animation software, having come from a college art and design course my work has always been catered toward more traditional methods of art. However during university I have opened myself up to a variety of mediums.
I came to university with a very unenthusiastic opinion of animation in general. I did not like the programs used to create animations, although this was unfair as I had not given them enough time to get to know and understand. In my first year and the first half of second year I decided to stay away from animation and stick to what I know and enjoyed at the Tim. This included poster design info graph design and original hand drawn concept art.
I found that the more I focused on my strengths the weaker I became, meaning I focused on what I thought I was good at rather than expanding my knowledge any further than it currently was. After some time I began to see the difference in my work and other students work, I had fallen behind in shunning animation. I realised that I needed to learn the basics and fast.
In the last week alone animation has become my man interest in graphic design. I have all but forgotten how I felt about animation before I gave it a fair try. I have in the last 4 days alone created 10 animation pieces. This may not sound like much however each piece was a new process to me and took some time to learn the techniques and effects capable of being generated in after effects. I found that the work that can be produced with fairly little knowledge is far greater than I ever expected.
I look forward to continuing my path down the animation road and will be posting far more animations in the future and during my 3rd year at university.
