"How Do We Think About Subjectivity" (Lecture Notes)
Subjectivity is best described as the idea behind the way a persons judgement is affected by their own personal feelings, thoughts and opinions rather than taking into account any outside influences.
This is a popular topic in psychology as it then examines the extent of the ways that personal feelings, thoughts and opinions are in turn affected by outside influences. This shows that it would be impossible to remain truly subjective, as you are always affected by external influence at some stage of your development.
This idea is very close the themes we looked at in last weeks lecture as representation and culture have a large amount of influence over our thoughts and opinions which are then used to shape our own individual judgement over something.
This shows that subjectivity can never be completely separated from cultural influence.
